True Fairytale Castles in Germany (Part I)

There are buildings in the world that make us imagine, moving to the past and believe that we are in one of those fairy tales we heard when we are children, where the princesses, medieval time and legends of dragons were the protagonists.

The author of 101 lugares increíbles has made a selection of the best fairytale castles in Germany and today, we want to show  you some of these legendary and beautiful places.

1. Eltz Castle

This stunning castle sits on a large rock at 70 meters above the Moselle River and some rooms are open to the public.

2. Hohenzollern Castle

Located 50 kilometers from Stuttgart, it is not the original castle, it was rebuilt in honor of the Hohenzollern dynasty in the nineteenth century. Today it works as a museum.

3. Neuschwanstein castle

Located in Bavaria, it is one of the most famous icons of Germany. Although it may seem Medieval, it is a building built in the nineteenth century by Ludwig II of Bavaria, known as the “mad king”.

4. Schwerin Castle

Today is the seat of parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Originally a fortresses and then a palace, its ornamentation has evolved over the centuries.

5. Burghausen castle

It is the longest castle in Europe, with its 1043 meters, located on a hill near the border of Austria and it has over a thousand years of history.
